Scott Guise York PA Obituary, Death: York College of Pennsylvania Director of Athletic Communications has died

York College is deeply saddened to share the passing of our esteemed colleague and friend, Scott Guise, Director of Athletic Communications, who dedicated 30 years of his life to serving and shaping the athletic story of our college community.

Scott joined York College in 1995 and over the next three decades became a vital part of the Spartan athletics family. His work was driven by a passionate commitment to excellence, ensuring that every athletic team and student-athlete received the recognition they deserved. Scott approached each task with unwavering professionalism, humility, and a genuine love for sports and storytelling. His dedication extended beyond mere job responsibilities; it was a reflection of his deep care for the students, coaches, and colleagues he worked alongside.

Throughout his tenure, Scott was present at many of York College’s most memorable athletic moments. He captured the excitement and spirit of the men’s basketball team’s historic 2005 Final Four run, helping to immortalize a milestone that brought pride and joy to students, alumni, and Spartan fans nationwide. Yet, his focus was not solely on the big achievements. Many student-athletes have shared stories of how Scott’s quiet, constant support made a difference—reaching out after a hard-fought game or a spectacular play, even when he wasn’t on the sidelines. His care was sincere, understated, and profoundly impactful.

“Scott’s connection to everything Spartan—particularly our student-athletes and staff—went far beyond his professional role,” said Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation Paul Saikia. “What affected any of us affected him deeply, and he found it difficult to hide that. He didn’t just tell our story; he was an integral part of it. York College Athletics has always been a family, and Scott will always hold a special place within it.”

In recent years, Scott faced significant medical challenges with remarkable resilience. Despite these hurdles, he remained a steady and inspiring presence at athletic events—whether behind the camera, on a headset, or even working on his laptop while undergoing treatment. His unwavering loyalty to Spartan athletics never faltered. In recognition of his perseverance and service, Scott was honored as the 2025 recipient of the Middle Atlantic Conference Giant Steps Award, which celebrates individuals who inspire others through resilience and dedication.

“Scott is a true inspiration in many ways, especially in how he approached his recent health battles,” said Assistant Director of Athletic Communications Derek Behrenshausen. “He faced intense treatment with determination and continued to serve the York College community at a high level. His absence will be deeply felt, but his impact will continue to inspire all of us.”

Scott’s influence on the college is immeasurable—not only through the thousands of games, statistics, and stories he helped produce but also through the kindness, calm leadership, and strength he consistently displayed. His presence was a calming force that brought dignity and warmth to every interaction.

“York College’s motto is ‘Servire Est Vivere’—To Serve is to Live,” said Associate Athletic Director Matt Day. “There’s no better example of this than Scott. Whether taking photos on the sideline, calling games in the press box, checking in on colleagues, or talking with student-athletes in the training room, Scott was always there and always caring. His impact is immeasurable; he was a true Spartan, and he will be missed by all.”

Former Women’s Basketball Coach Betsy Witman reflected, “Scott was the face of York College Athletics that every student-athlete knew and loved. He was passionate about all our sports programs and proud of their successes. His infectious smile, strength, and courage were unmatched. I will truly miss my friend and coworker of nearly 28 years.”

York College’s Director of Communications, Julie Loeper, shared her thoughts on working alongside Scott. “He set a standard we all aimed to meet. Scott’s work ethic was exceptional and inspiring. He faced every challenge head-on without seeking attention or credit. We are better because we had the privilege of working with him.”

York College extends its deepest condolences to Scott’s family, colleagues, student-athletes, and all those whose lives he touched with his kindness and dedication. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will live on through every story he helped tell and every person he inspired.

In honor of Scott’s life and legacy, there will be a moment of silence before the start of the men’s and women’s basketball home games on Saturday, December 6, as well as before the New Standard Invitational for men’s and women’s wrestling, also on Saturday. All events will take place in the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center, where York College will pay tribute to the life, impact, and enduring spirit of Scott Guise.
